Japan Center for Michigan Universities (Shiga, Japan)
The Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) invites applications for two summer instructor
positions.
Period of appointment: June 8 – August 7, 2025.
Qualifications:
- A master’s degree or higher, preferably in Japanese language pedagogy, applied linguistics,
or a related field in education or Japanese studies. - Native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching all levels of Japanese at the college level in the United States.
Responsibilities:
- Teach a maximum of 18 hours per week of Japanese-language courses (Elementary,
Intermediate, Advanced). - Additional responsibilities include student advising and contributing to the Center’s
activities and services.
Housing:
JCMU will provide rent-free housing at the Center, which includes basic furniture, appliances, and
utensils. Utility expenses must be paid by the tenant.
JCMU will cover airfare for the shortest route from the instructor’s nearest airport to Japan.
Salary:
Starting from ¥632,000, depending on teaching experience and highest degree earned. Participants
are responsible for their own social insurance and tax obligations.
Transportation:
JCMU will cover airfare for the shortest route from the instructor’s nearest airport to Japan.
