Japanese Teacher (part time or full time available)

Kids Explore Japan, teaching in various schools in the metro Detroit area

We are seeking experienced and caring Japanese instructors to teach at various public, private, and charter schools in the Detroit Metro area as part of programming provided by “Kids Explore Japan” and “Global Kids Explore.” Assignments are for teaching Japanese in various grades (K-12), depending on the school, and some after-school programming, Saturday programming, and private tutoring is available as well. We are looking to add to our team of highly gifted teachers with candidates who are caring, energetic, professional, dependable, culturally responsive, and committed to providing the best and most rewarding foreign language experience possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Become acquainted with weekly lesson templates and infuse effective learning strategies
  • Arrive on time to each class, prepared to teach with pre-approved lessons and learning objectives
  • Submit regular attendance in a timely manner as well as monthly timesheets in a timely manner
  • Perform pre-tests and post-tests to all students
  • Provide real-time or weekly progress updates via email and feedback to administration on areas of concern and/or areas of success
  • Assist with field trip coordination

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Teacher certification preferred, either in Japan or the U.S.
  • Two years or more of teaching experience preferred, including implementing a dynamic curriculum.
  • Native Japanese speakers must be proficient in English, working towards an Associates or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the area of education or child development.
  • English speakers must be proficient in Japanese (N2 level) and working towards an Associates or Bachelor’s degree, preferable in the area of Japanese language, education, or child development.
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Experience working in urban school settings
  • Dependability, flexibility, excellent communication, integrity, compassion for under-resourced populations, accountability, and great follow-through skills
  • Familiarity with child development for ages 5-17 preferred
  • Talent in music, dance, or art is a plus
  • Some proficiency in a third language a plus (Spanish, Chinese, French, Korean, Latin, Hindi)
  • Candidates with less experience but strong motivation will be considered for co-teaching positions.
