Assistant Professor-in-Residence with a Japanese language concentration

The Department of World Languages & Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor-in-Residence with a Japanese language concentration. This position carries a teaching load of four courses per semester, with a mix of lower- and upper-division Japanese courses. The expected start date is August 2025. The department is looking for a committed teacher with a documented record of excellent teaching. The candidate’s research expertise is open.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Demonstrate experience in and a strong commitment to teaching both introductory and advanced courses to undergraduate students of Japanese;
  • Have experience or willingness to engage in creating new business and hospitality courses for the Japanese program at UNLV;
  • Willingness to collaborate in the creation of a Japanese major.
  • The successful candidate is also expected to perform service to the Department of World Languages & Cultures and the College of Liberal Arts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in Japanese or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and a documented record of excellent teaching. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body.
  • The chosen candidate is expected to be competent / familiar in the use of instructional technology and communicative, proficiency-based teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to contribute to UNLV’s core curriculum.
