The Study Abroad for Language Advancement (SAFLA) SIG is a community of language professionals who aim to gain better understanding of study abroad experiences for the purpose of language skills development.
We invite interested AATJ members to join this community to engage in discussion on a wide variety of study abroad topics (e.g., how to work with learners before, during, and after study abroad; accommodations for learners with disabilities; identity and study abroad).
We encourage interested AATJ members to:
- propose panels at the AATJ spring/fall conferences to report on programmatic features and outcomes in specific study abroad programs in Japan;
- present papers based on empirical research on study abroad at annual AATJ spring/fall conferences;
- participate in SIG meetings at annual AATJ spring/fall conferences to discuss study abroad issues, good practices, and/or instructional materials development; and
- participate in occasional online discussion on study abroad issues.
Please contact SIG Chair Hiroaki Kawamura (kawamura@findlay.edu) if you would like to be on the SAFLA e-mail list.
