Full-Time Instructor of Japanese (Non-tenure Track)

The faculty of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor of Japanese to begin August 16, 2025. The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. Candidates must have a minimum qualification of a Master’s degree or higher in Japanese or a related field, completed by August 15, 2025, with evidence of two years of successful teaching experience at the college level, and native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English. Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese

Position Description: The Program in Asian Studies at Bates College invites applications for a two-year position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese (or Visiting Instructor depending on terminal degree), beginning July, 2025, and ending in June, 2027. One-Year Visiting Position in Japanese language

Applications are invited for a one-year visiting position in Japanese language for 2025-26, with teaching to begin in September 2025 and the possibility of renewal for 2026-2027. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications, the appointment will be made at the level of either a visiting lecturer or a visiting assistant professor. The teaching load will consist of two language courses in Fall 2025 and two in Spring 2026.Depending on the staffing needs, the position will also teach a three-week Winter Study sustaining course for Japanese 101 students in January 2026 with additional compensation. 1. Position/Number of openings One (1) full-time instructor on a renewable three-year contract (April 1, 2025–March 31, 2028). 2. Duties Teaching of intermediate and advanced Japanese, mostly to graduate students from North American universities who intend to become researchers or pursue other Japan-related work. Teaching Japanese language classes (including discipline-specific classes on law, religion, and/or courses on classical Japanese or kanbun). Developing new teaching materials. The Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) invites applications for two summer instructor positions. Period of appointment: June 8 – August 7, 2025.
