Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese Language, AY2025-26

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese language, beginning on July 1, 2025. Responsibilities include teaching Japanese language courses across multiple levels, including a Professional Japanese course. Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English, a M.A. or Ph.D. degree (or ABD status) in Japanese linguistics, pedagogy, or a related area, and have experience in teaching Japanese language courses of all levels at the college level (U.S. experience preferred). A strong grounding in proficiency-oriented teaching, a commitment to creating an inclusive classroom environment for students from a range of diverse backgrounds, and a command of instructional technology applied to language learning are also preferred qualities.

A complete application will include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement on teaching philosophy and pedagogy, two sample syllabi, a list of three professional references, and a link to a video teaching demonstration at the elementary, intermediate or advanced level.
