Fox Mill Elementary School is seeking a passionate and qualified Japanese Immersion Teacher to join our dynamic team and contribute to the success of our well-established Japanese Immersion Program. Fox Mill Elementary is proud to foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and multicultural understanding among our diverse student population.

Position Overview:

The Japanese Immersion Teacher will instruct students in mathematics, science, health, and Japanese language arts using Japanese as the medium of instruction 90% of the time, per FCPS and state guidelines. This role requires collaboration with colleagues and a commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach core content (math, science, health) and Japanese language arts to students in grades 2.
  • Implement FCPS curriculum and adhere to immersion program best practices.
  • Collaborate with English-side partner teachers to ensure curriculum alignment.
  • Use effective strategies to support students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, including ESOL students and students with IEPs or 504 plans.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes a love for learning, cultural appreciation, and global citizenship.
  • Support events and activities hosted by the PTA, school, and local community to promote the Japanese Immersion Program and strengthen school-community relationships.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to immersion education and Japanese language instruction.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Japanese and English (native or near-native proficiency in Japanese is required).
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license in elementary education.
  • Experience teaching in immersion, dual-language, or Japanese language settings is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom environment.
