Bi-annual Journal
AATJ’s main venue for intellectual discourse among its members is the Association’s official journal, Japanese Language and Literature. (Before 2001 [Volume 35] the journal was entitled Journal of the Association of Teachers of Japanese.)
In existence since 1966, JLL provides a scholarly forum for its members and the larger academic world in the area of Japanese literature, Japanese linguistics, teaching Japanese as a second or foreign language, and Japanese culture. Two issues are published each year.
Open Access, Free Online Journal
Japanese Language and Literature is published online, under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License, by the University Library System, University of Pittsburgh.
Articles in the journal are published under Open Access, freely available to anyone (both members and non-members of AATJ) at the journal’s website: https://jll.pitt.edu.
To read and download articles from the most recent issue of Japanese Language and Literature, (currently Volume 57, No. 1; April 2023), please go to the journal’s website: jll.pitt.edu. To be notified when a new issue is published, register as a reader on the website, using the “Register” link at the top of the home page. Once you are registered, you will receive notifications by email for each new issue of the journal. New issues are published twice a year, in April and October.
A few copies of the journal are printed, primarily for distribution to library subscribers. If you are interested in purchasing a paper copy of an issue of the journal, please contact the AATJ office at aatj@aatj.org.
JSTOR
Japanese Language and Literature is abstracted in all major abstraction services, including the JSTOR archive, which offers a full-text retrieval capability of past issues (those dated up to one year previous to the current volume). Ask your librarian about how to retrieve articles in past issues. If your institution does not subscribe to JSTOR, you can obtain online access to back issues of JLL as a benefit of membership. Ask the AATJ office (aatj@aatj.org) to arrange access for you.
Submissions
If you wish to submit a manuscript to the journal, please register as an author on the same website (jll.pitt.edu). You will be able to upload your manuscript, and the appropriate editor will contact you.
