AATJ upholds a bilingual policy, allowing members to use Japanese, English, or both in all activities, including conferences, webinars, and newsletters. This policy reflects AATJ’s commitment to the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).

AATJ strives to foster an environment where Japanese language teachers from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds can learn from one another, while providing enriching learning opportunities for Japanese language learners at all educational levels in the United States. To achieve this, we carefully select the appropriate language—Japanese, English, or both—based on the content and participants, ensuring a space for active knowledge sharing and discussion.

AATJ’s activities engage not only Japanese language teachers but also school administrators, educators, related organizations, and stakeholders who support Japanese language and culture education, some of whom do not speak Japanese. By utilizing both languages, we ensure more effective and inclusive participation.
