Lawrence University
Part-Time Japanese Language Lecturer

Lawrence University invites applications for a part-time position teaching Japanese language and linguistics. The appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal. Total number of courses taught will be four or five for the year. Applicants for the position should possess an MA or PhD in Japanese language, linguistics, or a related field, or be ABD in a similar PhD program. They should have native or near-native competency in Japanese and fluency in English. The position will be full-time for the fall semester 2013 (08/26/13 - 01/08/14) and/or spring semester 2014 (01/09/14 - 05/25/14). There is an option for teaching summer courses. Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor of Premodern Japanese

The Department of Asian & Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at The University of Iowa invites applications for a one-year position in premodern Japanese at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor beginning August 2013 with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will show evidence of an active research agenda and will be prepared to teach courses in premodern Japanese literature, modern Japanese language, and a general-education course, Asian Humanities Japan. The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania announces the availability of a position as full-time Lecturer in the Japanese Language Program for the academic year 2013-2014. The appointment will be for one year with the possibility of annual renewal for up to an additional two years based on satisfactory performance and approval of the Dean. Japanese Language Lecturer

Selection Criteria:

d. expertise in language pedagogy, theories in second language acquisition, cognitive development (especially, current foreign language teaching approaches including content-based instruction, project-based instruction, thematic units, etc.);
e. expertise in language assessment strategies;
f. knowledge and skills to analyze students' needs and develop courses based on the needs analysis;
g. abilities to create and manage a classroom environment conducive to Japanese language learning and to develop and employ multiple strategies to engage students actively in learning Japanese language and culture;
h. abilities to identify, select, adapt, and use a wide variety of instructional resources and technology to enhance students' learning and to accommodate multiple students' needs with diversified backgrounds;
i knowledge and skills to link between Japanese language courses and the contents of other courses offered by Japanese Studies Program;
j. Affirmation that Japanese language learning is appropriate for all students regardless of language background, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, and other factors;
k. Willingness to maintain and improve knowledge and teaching skills constantly;
l. Abilities to communicate and advocate the value of learning Japanese language;
m. Understanding the sequential nature of our curriculum and articulate the program by working effectively with colleagues.

Adjunct Faculty Position in Japanese

Temple University Japan Campus invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Faculty positions in Japanese in its undergraduate program. This is a temporary position, teaching Japanese language courses that undergraduates are required to fulfill as part of their major. The student body is very diverse, and the prospective instructor will have the opportunity to meet the challenge of teaching students from a variety of backgrounds with a range of Japanese proficiency levels. This position is available only to applicants who have a valid working visa in Japan (the position does not include visa sponsorship).

Starting date is flexible but ideally the position will begin from Fall Semester 2013 (September 2, 2013 – December 11, 2013) or Spring Semester 2014 (January 14, 2013 – April 23, 2014). Salary and benefits are in accord with the pay scale determined and used in the program.

Mango Languages is looking for native speakers of Japanese to work on a part time creative language-learning project. Individuals would be working remotely.

Requirements:
1. Native speaker of Japanese;
2. Understanding of difficult grammar concepts in Japanese and how to teach these to a speaker of English, e.g., characters that cannot be directly translated, particles, etc.;

Japanese Language Adjunct Instructors for US Navy Locations

Central Texas College is a unique college that has served thousands of students in area communities and military installations around the world. The CTC main campus is located in Killeen, TX.

The NCPACE program is offered by Central Texas College, under contract to the Navy, aboard pier side and deployed US Navy ships. Navy Pacific deployments include areas in the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Persian Gulf. All instructors are classified as part-time adjunct faculty. Teaching assignments are based on 6 to 8 week terms. The Navy must order a minimum of two college-level courses per term, and faculty assignments are limited to a maximum of five courses per term. Japanese Studies at UNM is a vibrant and growing program in the department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Assistant/Associate Professor of Japanese Studies

Earlham College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in Japanese Studies, specialization in any academic discipline, beginning August 2013. Teaching responsibilities consist of six courses each year, three per semester, including the Japanese Studies introductory and senior capstone courses.

Earlham has one of the oldest and best-known undergraduate programs in the country for the study of Japan. About 9% of Earlham students enroll in Japanese language study, and each year 15 - 20 students study in Japan through one of Earlham’s two programs. In addition, about 20 Japanese exchange and degree-seeking students add to the Japanese presence on this campus of 1,200 students.

We are especially interested in adding courses in literature, social sciences, film/media studies, and popular/visual culture. Courses may be comparative in nature, but each course should include at least 50% Japan content in the form of lectures, readings, and assignments. Courses that include other East Asian content are especially welcome.

Doctorate or ABD required. Although the academic discipline is not specified, significant graduate coursework and research experience must be in Japanese Studies.
